Continuing the tradition of the current majority commissioners (led by Tom Pack) of turning a blind ear to any sort of citizen concerns the commissioners DID approve the zoning change last night to allow Tryon Equestrian to reduce their setback from the road to 15' (rather 25') and increase the building height at the pea ridge exit and additional 10' against the objections of many speakers. There will now be a mixed use "village" at the top of Pea Ridge (smaller hotel, condos, shops and open space) which is still probably better than one large hotel. The lack of commissioner concern for any citizen comments is a problem that will have to be addressed at the ballot box next November (apparently they learned nothing from the recent water contract issue).
In addition they presented and a approved an expenditure of roughly $300,000 for a pump station along hwy.9 that is not currently needed. Ray Gasperson was the lone "no" vote citing concerns over unnecessary expenditures. Apparently Ray is the only fiscal conservative on the board as the others have spent over $2,500,000 in tax dollars building large water lines throughout the county.
