Mtg starts at 7pm on the second floor of the Womack Bldg in Columbus. As always arrive early and sign up before th meeting starts to make comments on any agenda item OR non-agenda item. Here is a link to the packet which includes the agenda for tomorrow night, minutes from the last meeting and attachments related to agenda items:

First on the agenda are two public hearings. One on proposed changes to the Agricultural District (Dawn Jordan). The second on a proposed grant application to the NC Parks and Rec Trust Fund related to the new foster Creek preserve (JerryStensland). Each Public Hearing has a citizen comment period after the proposals are presented.
After the two public hearings the normal Board of Commissioners mtg. will begin and include the following items (see link above for the full agenda):
- commissioner vote on the two items just discussed in the public hearings.
- Mental Health task force presentation
- Set public hearing for amendment to Polk County Zoning ordinance/map to rezone several parcels into the Equestrian Village District ----- public hearing to be set for May 15th at 7pm
- Resolution for Property Tax reform. Based on citizen concerns that the lack of a limit on tax valuation increases in NC many local land owners near the equestrian center have seen their tax valuations increase by 300%. By contrast, SC limits tax valuation increase to 15% per each five year revaluation (3%/year) until the property is sold. The resolution is included in the mtg. packet (see link above) and asks the state to perform a "study" of the property tax system and make recommendations to provide relief to long term property owners from being taxed out of their property. Seems a little weak, but it's something. On the plus side this will be sent to the other 99 counties in NC and to Governor Roy Cooper and the NC general legislature. ---- if we become aware of any petitions or other ways to call and support this issue we will let you know in future emails.
- Polk County Law Enforcement Facility construction update
- Volunteer Boards vote
